Våffeldagen is officially held in Sweden on March 25, which, according to the Christian tradition, is the day when the archangel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would give birth to God’s son. In Swedish, this is known as Vårfrudagen, or “Our Lady’s Day.” The similar sounds of Vårfrudagen and Våffeldagen have led to March 25 being celebrated with waffles. In Lindsborg, we celebrate Våffeldagen with costumes, camaraderie, and – of course – waffles!
